'Empathy' an important skill that needs to be taught

For 21st century leaning the important skills that the educators talk about in teaching to the students is communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills. They talk about technology integration and making students life long learners. One of the most important skill is forgotten and that is 'empathy'

Empathy is the ability to understand others by putting oneself in the shoes of others. It helps people to understand the perspective of others as they  themselves have experienced  the emotions and feelings before.

To create global citizens we need to teach empathy to our students. For this the teachers first need to be trained so that they are able to empathize with their students..As Aristotle said " Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all"

Expressing care for other students' feelings, listening to others, understanding verbal and non verbal cues and learning to understand and appreciate the differences in others will help them to become better citizens of tomorrow. It will take care of the negative behaviour in children also  like bullying, violence, disruptive nature, etc

Dealing with Head 'Head on'

Always remember your Head or a boss is a human being just like you. He may have different characteristics which you may not like but that doesn't mean that you will hate him.You can develop better relationship with your rude, insensitive,difficult, intrusive, controlling, picky, petty and critical Head by showing little emotional intelligence. Certain strategies will help in creating good professional relationship with your Head.

Don't be defensive. acknowledge if itis your fault.
Never argue with a Head.
There is no need to be fearful. Be kind and truthful.
After implementing a plan , inform the Head immediately about the action taken.
Keep your personal life totally separate from your professsional life.
Don't react when your Head criticizes you. Stay calm and composed.
Do discuss but never confront.
Have your communication line open as it helps in solving the misunderstandings if any.
Do praise your Head for good behaviour/good actions. Compliment him on his good dressing.
Always respond to his emails , phone calls, and text messages promptly.
The higher  the person goes the lonelier he becomes. Remember to include him for little get togethers.It will make him feel wanted.
Document everything and be ready to provide the evidence.
You can't change the personality of the Head but you can change your way of thinking towards your Head.
